Yummylicious Moms in Bollywood

When  I picked this month’s prevention magazine at the stand I was shocked to see Shilpa Shetty on the cover not so much on seeing her but more on how super-hot she looked. And I was like what the hell, wasn't it a few months back that she looked plum and cute with all the baby fat. Where did all that go, and convinced myself that it was certainly Photoshoped. But then I saw one of the grainy pics (the one you take on a cell phone) of hers on twitter and some advert of a reality TV show she is on and boy was I surprised to look at her svelte figure.
Moral of the story, I wanted to know how she had achieved it. This got me thinking on all the other Bollywood moms who achieved the same thing. So I did some research and this post is about her and some of the hottest moms in Bollywood and their postpartum weight loss secret. It’s certainly tough to follow but not impossible. So here we go starting with our very on Mrs. Kundra
Shilpa Shetty Kundra
She gave birth to Viaan on May of 2012and was 80 kg almost 20 kg overweight. Take a look at how she looked, lovely and of course cute with all the baby fat.

 Sometime in December 2012 when she launched the TV reality show she still carried most of the excess weight; understandably motherhood really puts fitness on the back burner. But come April and this hotty was back in the game. How did she achieve it, here is a lowdown on her fitness regime
Exercise Routine: Crossfit
Diet:
pre-Breakfast:Amla Juice, papaya
breakfast: porridge with raisans and a banana or two eggs +a cup of tea
Followed by workout
Lunch: fish or 2 eggs or dal+ quinoa in roti or pure form, buttermilk or yogurt
snack boiled sprouts or a turkey sandwich, a cup of tea with brown sugar
dinner clear soup salad, fish or palak omelete

Maliaka Arora Khan
This sexy mom was 20 pounds overweight when she gave birth to her bundle of joy Arhaan. But 6 months later Malaika looked like a 20 year old, fit and firm at all the right places. Though I tend to feel her clothes are a tad bit too revealing, however if you have got it then flaunt it. Malaika does this with élan including melting all that extra fat.
This is her fitness regime for postpartum weight loss


Exercise: Aerobics, Weight training and kick boxing.

This is what she told mid-day way back in 2003 “I started working out in the second month after delivery. First I started out with walking and then gradually moved on to aerobics, weight-training, kick-boxing, etc. I used to work out for an hour-and-a-half every day. I made it a point to get up at 8.30 for my workout, no matter how late Id slept or how long Arhaan had kept me up.
I can’t only walk or jog, I need to do something that keeps me entertained, which is why I work out with Nalina Talwalkar in Bandra.”

Food: “On the food front, I cannot diet. I eat right and am very particular about what I eat.
No fried food, no colas. I only have fruit juices till 12 noon. I eat chicken and fish and avoid red meat. I supplement my diet with brown bread and brown rice, baked potatoes and bajra roti. I believe it’s very important to cut down on excessive fat intake” Maliaka Arora Khan said this and my  blogging world friend Abhi  has an amazing post on her which reveals her diet secrets

Karishma Kapoor.
 A mother of two this lady has shown us women that you can get back in shape and that  twice over. She knocked of 23 kg of extra weight after her second pregnancy and certainly proved that she is undoubtedly one of Bollywood’s most  good looking moms. The secret to her postpartum weight loss is  a healthy diet and ofcourse swimming

Diet
Karisma Kapoor Diet Chart

Breakfast: 2 pieces of whole wheat toast with some vegetables
Lunch: Mango/fruit salad , Brown Rice and Curry
Snack: Grilled Sandwich/Dhokla
Dinner: Chicken breast (no skin, no sauces) and roasted veggies

She also includes 2-3 egg whites in the day to ensure adequate protein intake.

Mandira Bedi
This feisty Punjabi woman was known for cricket and more for her noodle strap blouses. But when she was pregnant and for 4 months after Vir was born she still wore her loose bulky kurtas. But another 3 months and Mandira was back to wearing noodle straps and reclaimed her pre-pregnancy wardrobe.
The only way she did this was by sheer determination as she says” “The only way out is setting a target, and going hammer and tongs to achieving that”, there is no shortcut.

Exercise regime : Exercsing twice a day, 20 minutes running in the evening and weight training in the morning for 6 days a week
Diet: Breakfast: A Slice of Toast with eggs and a glass of Mill
Lunch and Dinner: Dal+Roti+Sabzi
During the first 3 months of weight loss she gave up sweets, sugar and carbs completely. I wouldn’t call that healthy but what the hell, she wanted to reach her goal faster. She confesses in a health magazine that she took as less as 600 calories a day to increase calorie burn deficit. 

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
There isn’t much of a weight loss story but this a special mention because she makes it easier for an average woman to relate to that postpartum weight loss is difficult and long journey


Ok I confess I have never had a liking for this actress, especially because her acting skills are over rated and her personal life portrayed in the media, projects her as a kniving stonehearted women. But I have a new found respect for this woman ever since she gave birth to her daughter. She was always under the media glare and which I am sure is tough but tougher would be all the criticism that she faced for not losing weight right after her pregnancy. Seriously I wanted to shout at the annoying media to just leave the women alone. She will lose the weight when she wants, who are you to ask or dictate terms. In spite of all that Aishwarya didn’t shy away from the camera but maintained a dignified silence. This woman is strong, and then after a year and half she gets back to shape(trys to not there yet) to shut all the waging tongues, as if to tell them she doesn’t care a F#@! about what they think or want. Though not her former self she is taking her time and I am sure she wants to do it at her pace. You go girl!!!!!!!!  So what is the secret

Day 3 – RushFit- Strength and Endurance Workout DVD


Like I mentioned on Day1 this dvd was supposed to be the first workout but I messed up the so the schedule so Day 3 it was. It was tough especially after the Banish Fat yesterday.  Seriously all the time during the workout I just wanted someone to give me a huge thud on head  for a couple reasons.
One I messed up with the schedule, the calendar was placed a certain way so  you can do it and work different muscle groups and not over load one.
Two I’ve been messing up diet big time, eating late breakfast, skipping lunches and hungry at all the wrong time. And that’s why when I do my workouts I feel light headed.Today before the workout I had 3 huge scoops of icecream, though it help me work better, but it just made matters worse. I wanted to throwup. God just hit me on the head and help me eat clean and right. Not to mention consuming enough water.
So to sum it up the workout was taxing but I got through it and hoping that tomorrow is going to be a better  day.

Day 2 RushFit – Cardio + Stretch and Flexibility
Today’s workout can be summed with 2 quotes “Nothing comes for free” Jillian and “muscles are like elastic if you pull at it when it’s cold it snaps” George.
It was day for cardio of my choice and I chose “Banish Fat Boost metabolism “by Jillian Michaels. Its 56 minutes long including the cool down. This workout I have done so many times especially in the 2009 when I had a huge weight loss goal. And when I started off today I thought, this aint tough I have done it a million times but boy was I wrong. Jillian Michael grinds you to paste in this cardio blast.  It reminded me how unfit I still was but in a good way and I pushed myself, got uncomfortable so I reach the end . Of course I had to modify a couple of the moves, however when I do this the second time over I will make sure I do the advance version of all the moves.  Rushfit recommends a Cardio of 30 minutes in the first 4 weeks, but the bad ass that I am I decided I could certainly do with some of Jillian’s tough loving.
This is one of Jillian’s best workouts with zero equipment’s, so please try this if you haven’t.
The Second one was Stretch and Flexibility, a bonus workout from Rushfit. It was Zen workout and relaxed my body after that heart pounding cardio. I loved it because It stretched all the muscles that I had worked out yesterday and today.  Stretching is very important because it helps you to train better, so I give in my best in such workouts. It also improves my flexibility and prevents and heals injury. This I learnt the hard way because I have 2 bulging discs, Yoga and stretching were the only way I healed it. Not to forget my childhood problem of loose knee cap.
It felt amazing after the long workout and I was relaxed so I sat down to write the post.  I leave you with one of my all-time favorite quote from Jillian

Day 1 - Georges St-Pierre 'Rushfit' Workout Program

Yesterday marked the beginning of Georges St-Pierre 'Rushfit' Workout Program. After almost zero workouts for the past 2 months, it wasn't as bad as I thought. George is a MA fighter and the workout is based on his workout for fights which is designed by his Trainer Erick Owings.
I chose to do the advanced calendar, merely because I wanted to up my game from the last time. The workout guide provides you a way to assess yourself to decide on which calendar to workout. I still wanted to do the advanced instead of the beginners or intermediate. This is tough love for myself and little bit of craziness. I have of course done all the things that the workout guide asks you to do like the pics and assessment of stats and also the assessment, will post that here soon.
 This is how the Week 1 looks like
Day 1: Strength and Endurance Workout DVD
Day 2: Cardio + Stretch and Flexibility Bonus DVD
Day 3: Abdominal Strength and Core Conditioning (AM) + Balance & Agility Bonus (PM)
Day 4:  The fight conditioning workout
Day 5: Full Body and Strength conditioning + Balance & Agility Bonus (PM)
Day 6: Cardio + Stretch and Flexibility Bonus DVD
The Cardio is a of your choice so I plan to do Jillian’s Body revolution or Brazil Butt lift or maybe just run .This will totally depend on my mood.

Yesterday was Day 1 but absent minded as I am I did the Day3 workout instead of the Day 1. So for this week I am just going to interchange it. Should have checked the guide once more before I popped the DVD in but hurt ego can do this to you.

The exercises aren’t and different from P90X or some of Jillian’s DVD but the variation is amazing. Abdominal Strength and Core Conditioning workout has 5 Rounds, each one made of 3 exercises each repeated twice. I loved it because my core hurts today, its that lovely soreness that you have when you have worked it out completely. The only move that I couldn’t do was the last one in Round 5 . It was crazy to move from a Navasana to Sit Thru to Hindu Pushup to Sit Thru, complex Huh? I did the variation for this move and the second time of the back bend.
My initial reaction is that it is a well thought about program with all the basic in place. I will post a detailed review of Rushfit at the end of the 60 days. But till then there will be my daily journal posts and weekly review.
 Food is still crazy with all the binging in the past months and all the junk that is lying around . I have to quit all whites(sugar, bread and rice). Will do that by next week.

Well forgot to mention that there are two very handsome men to workout with you in the room( George and Eric). If that is'nt motivation enough there is a lady who has such a beautiful body that I wanted to kill her out of jealousy.

Trial Rooms can make you thin

No this is not a name of a workout, but what I mean is an actual trial room... those tiny booths in stores with huge mirrors and space to try clothes on, yes that’s what I mean. I love shopping trying on new clothes and styles or should I say loved until because earlier I could fit into a size zero skirt and totally rock it. But now shopping is dreadful.
So hubby dearest and I were out shopping yesterday for tees and just random women clothes and there was a sale at my favorite store. In all the excitement I just went picking everything I saw and liked and walked into the trial room with a armload of clothes.  And then the horrible happened, I tried 10 different outfits and I dint fit into any of them.  And the ones that I managed to squeeze into accentuated the bulges and tires. So I send hubby on the hunt for bigger sizes, and then even bigger. By the time I had change into bigger bulkier clothes I was close to tears and hated everything I chose. I hated myself for the being this fat blob, that I never was.
 I always prided myself in fitting into the smallest of sizes but yesterday was a different story.  It’s not that I haven’t lost any of my pregnancy weight but it just wasn’t enough.

So sitting there in that small cubicle looking at this blob of an image I decided that I certainly had to up my game.  One of my favorite bloggers asked me in my last blog about how I had such a huge transformation from 2009 to 2010 and a short answer to that would be dedication and control. That’s what has been missing all these days so now when I workout I will make sure that the fat melts off and there is no turning back. And I certainly need to journalize this so I will do that here.

The Long Hiatus and Back

The last time I wrote was a short post about how crazy life had gotten. And after a month long of craziness I have finally found time to write and relax (maybe a little bit). There was so much happening around me this past month, even my showers have been 5 minutes long with sweltering  Indian  summer heat . So what happened, lots, to begin with my maid walked in one day as usual more than 2 hours late. The usual morning cooking cleaning madness, I asked her about it and what does she do…… tell me that  “ why are you  making a big deal about it , I am just late today not every day”. That certainly was the last nail in the coffin and I told her not so many words to F@#! Off. Seriously, she walks in and walks out at whatever time she pleases and expects me to keep up with her incompetency and worse her terrible attitude.
All that said I was stuck with a no maid, but I said what the F@#! I will do it all myself. And guess what I survived and entire month without a maid. All the sweeping, dusting, mopping , washing clothes, cleaning utensils……..along with my daily chores of cooking , shopping and organizing was done and a lot faster than the stupid maid, not to forget my ever busy professional life.

If the no maid escapade wasn’t enough, we had to move places so there was whole bunch of packing, moving and then unpacking to be done,  organizing the new house and dealing with a whole bunch of new issues of organizing stuff( cable , gas connection, the laundry service etc).
Amongst all this chaos there were  interviews  for a new job and some trysts where hubby dearest changed to be an insensitive monster , not to mention that the car got hit ( nothing major but the repairs were enormous).  
The silver lining was that I lost 4 pounds without any exercise… oh yes I haven’t worked out for more than a month. I know 4 pounds is amazing but household chores and running up and down the stairs can give any workout a run for its money. 
Now that life has had started having some semblance to returning to normalcy, I plan to get back to my workout routine also blogging and eating right . It also helps that my new maid (yes one month of no help is crazy) turns up early morning so I wake up early and get time for myself.  That said I will start RushFit on Monday, more to come on this one when I am there and you will see some before and after pics.
Thats all I wanted to share for my long absence and I leave you with my weight loss journey pic from over the years, from the super fit 2007 to chubby 2008 to fat 2009 to fit again 2010 to  2011 obese (postpartum) and finally my 10 pound loss  in 2012. Pictures are always a better way than the scale to remind you about health.   I want to get back to super fit  and hope Rushfit helps this
